Traffic Control Devices: Cones and Speed Bumps

According to the institute of traffic engineers, traffic bumps are one of the most effective traffic calming tools and since time in memorial they have been used on our roads. Driving on an obstacle at speed is not only annoying and jarring, but also damaging your tires. Most of the common speed bumps are made from asphalt and are usually installed by the local government. Due to technological advances, manufacturers have come up with rubber speed bumps.

Traffic speed bumps, also called as speed breakers, speed bumps and road humps, help in controlling the speed of vehicles and stops people who drives their on high speed. There are so many people who do the same while they drive their vehicles they forgot the rules of traffic and face so many problems. Accident occurs due to people who don't want to follow the traffic rules or they don't know the rules. Suppose if there are no speed bumps on road or traffic rule then so many accident will happen, maybe we have to survive for it.

Speed bumps are made of concert, asphalt, rubber and plastic. Removable speed bumps are perfect for situations where there are temporary needs for reducing the speed of vehicles.

Various types of traffic control devices:

traffic control cones

1. Traffic cones - The most basic of all traffic control devices, the traffic cone is made out of bright orange PVC material. Cones are used to control the flow of traffic simply and effectively with the least amount of prep time. Easily prevent accidents with traffic cones kept in the back of your car in case of emergency.

2. Traffic barrels - Just as basic as traffic cones, but in a much bigger form, the traffic barrel are primarily used to keep motorists and pedestrians out of heavy construction zones during repaving or other road work. Barrels are much sturdier that cones as they weigh 25 lbs.

3. Traffic barricades - Along with traffic barrels, traffic barricades are an extremely visible and effective way to control traffic. Traffic barricades usually have reflective coating to allow easy viewing during the night.

4. Pavement marking tapes - A removable polymer tape to help show the outline of traffic flow in work zones at night. It's perfect for areas where removal is absolutely necessary after construction is complete.

5. Speed bumps - Usually made out of rubber, speed bumps physically slow down cars in areas where high speeds are not acceptable. They are perfect in work zones with high levels of traffic and in parking lots.

6. Vertical panel - Available with rubber base, these traffic control devices are extremely durable to weather and impact, all stacking neatly while not in active use.

Importance of speed humps

1. Speed humps are traffic calming device which plays a vital role in safely slowing the speed of a vehicle. These are rounded raised areas placed across the road way and are good for locations where very low speed is desired.

2. They are not just the most common and efficient way of reducing the speed of vehicles but they can be strategically placed on the streets to make convenient walkways for the people.

3. They are placed on the roads that are across residential or school areas where high-speed driving can result to dangerous accidents. To avoid any accidents, these are placed on the road to break the speed of any vehicle up to 90% and making it safe for the people to walk around the road.

4. In a way it acts as sleeping policeman who works like a traffic policeman to slow down the speed of a vehicle and save our lives.

5. High-tech world has not left anything untouched and same goes for speed humps also. Conventional concrete and asphalt humps are being replaced by rubber, heavy duty steel, rubber cable protector and many other advance materials for high durability and safety. Rubber is preferred over conventional material for its durability, sturdiness, high-visibility and cost-effectiveness.

6. They can't be created by anyone as it is a product of tough engineering. Every manufacturer of these traffic calming devices have to meet the standards drawn by government to maintain the quality of the product.
